Nieto Senetiner’s vineyards

Do you want to know Nieto Senetiner Winery’s history?

In 1888, a group of Italian immigrants arrived in the land of Vistalba, Luján de Cuyo. This is the area of Mendoza that gave rise to Argentine viticulture. Then, they built the iconic colonial-style house, planted vineyards that are part of the current Finca Villa Blanca, and founded a new winery.

After a long time, in 1969, the Nieto and Senetiner families acquired the estate, expanded the facilities and consolidated a presence that had already become key in the history of great Argentine wines. Almost thirty years later, in 1998, Nieto Senetiner became part of Molinos Río de la Plata, one of the leading food and beverage Argentine companies.

To sum up, Nieto Senetiner has committed to the highest standards of winemaking and quality and it has consolidated its leadership by developing a portfolio of recognized brands. Since 1888, Nieto Senetiner produces wines that captivate with their elegance and surprise with their expressiveness. And in the last few years, it has become one of the leading stars in Argentina.

The winery

The story that is born in the vineyard continues in the winery. That is to say, this is a history that combines craftsmanship, tradition and technology to create unique experiences when it comes to enjoying great wines.

In a framework that respects the historical style of the colony, the elaboration of wines is carried out in pools of different sizes to preserve the quality of grapes. So, the production and storage of wine in oak barrels are taken care of in every detail. Also, the producers have a special sector, where they make sparkling wines using the Charmat and Champenoise methods. What is more, Nieto Senetiner Winery produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Bonarda and red and wine blends.

As one of the most qualified exponents of new world wines, Nieto Senetiner exports his products to more than 20 countries. Besides, it has become a privileged international ambassador of high-quality Argentine wine. On the other hand, the oenologist Santiago Mayorga is responsible for the production of high-end wines. Santiago has a brilliant career and is deeply knowledgeable about the secrets of each variety and each terroir. Moreover, in 2019, he was the only Argentine recognized among the fifty most influential people in the world of wine and spirits by WSET and IWSC.

Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor Malbec: A perfect combination of two types of grapes

This wine is a tribute to Don Nicanor, founder of the winery, who set the course with his vision and talent. This Malbec is made in an old winery located on Calle Guardia Vieja, Mendoza, which dates back to 1888. Then, the producers extract grapes from the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, which are located at an altitude of between 1,000 and 1,200 meters above sea level. In the Uco Valley, grapes are characterised by a high presence of tannins, acidity and freshness. On the other hand, in Luján, there are old vineyards (from around 1900), where the tannins are softer, the maturation slower and the fruit sweeter. So, Don Nicanor Malbec is a perfect combination of these two types of grapes.

Besides, Don Nicanor Malbec is aged in second and third-use oak barrels. This makes it very pleasant and easy to drink wine. Also, this complex wine is intense and purplish red. On the nose, red and black fruits stand out, in harmony with floral notes such as violets and field spices. So, the wood integrates with the wine very well. On the palate, it is fresh, elegant, with good volume, with velvety tannins and great persistence. As usual, Nieto Senetiner is a specialist in adapting his wines to the latest trends.
